Stories From My Class

Great things to read on a screen

Juli Kendall’s journal

Middle school reading writing workshop (she specializes in teaching literacy to ELLs). She also wrote the books Making Sense and Writing Sense; Making Sense was super helpful for understanding how good teachers work with ELLs in other districts.

Middleweb.com

Everything middle school, and so rich with resources and ideas that it feels like print. You can tell the site is made by a very thoughtful pre-TFA community of experienced teachers. The biweekly newsletter of middle grades news and resources is incredible.

Mr D Geography

A million times more user-friendly than anything National Geographic has available for teachers right now. As a bilingual teacher, I especially like his use of images and conceptual word sorts. His units are admirably thorough and he makes all the materials available online. They include: Maps and Geographic Skills, Physical Geography, Cultural Geography, Economic Geography, Population Geography, and then individual units for each of the continents.
